The lead writer on the story, Natusko Ishikawa, has received more than one standing ovation from fans for her work in FF14, and rightly so. I cannot praise the story in this game enough. It's the culmination of years of build-up and the result is nothing short of spectacular. It's amazing, and the recent patch somehow managed to take it to a height no one thought possible.

It's not just a great story with the qualifier of "for an MMO" but rather it's a great story in general. It is legitimately the best FF story since FF9, at least. Not just good, not just great, but amazing. I even re-wrote a job guide for beginner's relatively recently:Īnywho, for those interested, it's important to note a couple of things. For those interested in more info, we have a megathread on /r/ffxiv that's great for getting any questions asked, as well as the usual new player guides and stuff. You could spend months and months and months leveling all of the jobs to 60, see the storyline all the way through to the Dragonsong War, get to know Y'shtola and friends and see why Haurchefant is "best bro". I know there's a large number of Final Fantasy loving F2P gamers here, and people may be looking for ways to entertain themselves on the free in this covid world, so I wanted to point out for everyone that XIV sorta just quietly went F2P for new players that are happy playing up to lvl 60. along with a complete unlock of Palace of the Dead all the way to floor 200 (which is it's own form of level/item synced end game). I was digging through this week's XIV patch notes and saw in the notes down at the bottom that they made a pretty massive upgrade to the unlimited free trial, going from level locked at 35 (midway through the first expansion) to being level locked at 60 (end of the second expansion, Heavensward).
